Dear God. We'll surely have to answer for ever letting our neighbors come to such a state that this earthquake could cause such horror. We aren't responsible for their nation's failure, but we are responsible for ignoring it or giving it countenance. Forgive us.

ReplyDeleteI would argue that the best we can do for Haiti is to let it be. Only when people hit rock bottom can true change occur. Help beyond medicine would be a huge disservice to this country. God helps those who help themselves.
ReplyDeleteMesses negotiated by Carter, with Clinton's blessings still seem to be Bush's fault. Like Katrina and the Tsunami a coupla years ago, this IS a long term commitment.

One would guess that using Gitmo as a staging area for humanitarian relief isn't an option, though everything needed is there.
ReplyDeleteWhile I regret the loss of life among their contingent, having the UN mission in Haiti crippled will be one of the best things to happen to that nation.
