A Prime Directive?

Isolated Tribe Spotted In Brazil
One of South America's few remaining uncontacted indigenous tribes has been spotted and photographed on the border between Brazil and Peru.

The Brazilian government says it took the images to prove the tribe exists and help protect its land.

The pictures, taken from an aeroplane, show red-painted tribe members brandishing bows and arrows.

More than half the world's 100 uncontacted tribes live in Brazil or Peru, Survival International says.

Stephen Corry, the director of the group - which supports tribal people around the world - said such tribes would "soon be made extinct" if their land was not protected.

Look at how they're reacting to an airplane flying overhead. What must they think? Imagine their conversations. It's beyond their comprehension. They're aiming their weapons at it - they obviously fear it. And think about this. They know nothing about the American Revolution, Islam, World War II, Nuclear weapons, computers, the internet, men walking on the moon, Christianity, Van Gogh, Dali, Madonna, American Idol. We, and our civilizations, are beyond anything they can conceive of. These people know nothing about our world. That brings up another good point: it's their world too, and no matter how primitive it looks to us, they deserve to have it without our interference. We need to stay as far away from them as possible.

Who's You're Neighbor?!

Woman's Dead Body Lies in Flat for 35 Years
Governments have changed. War erupted and ended. Neighbors had children, and then grandchildren. But Hedviga Golik never left her tiny apartment in Croatia's capital — until her mummified body was carried out this week, 35 years after she died.

Police said Friday that no one ever reported Golik missing and no one has come to claim her body.

Residents of her loft building in downtown Zagreb had broken into Golik's flat after deciding that the apartment should belong to them, and not to her. Startled by the remains in bed, they called police.
She's was lying there dead since I was in kindergarten. KINDERGARTEN! Through almost everything I remember doing... she's been lying there dead. And no one has noticed. THE BERLIN WALL FELL! COMMUNISM COLLAPSED! The Soviet Union disintegrated! 7 different Presidents! Wars fought! The Space Shuttle was launched! The attacks of 9/11 happened! A freakin' civil war tore her country apart! And no one noticed she was dead. Jeebus.

Aaaaand...I Told You So...

Update on this post

Ohio Attorney Found in Georgia Says She Made Up Kidnapping
A pregnant attorney who vanished for four days last week now says her tale of being kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to Georgia was fabricated, police said Tuesday. Her husband said she had "a meltdown."

Karyn McConnell Hancock, a former Toledo city councilwoman, had disappeared Wednesday and was found Saturday near Atlanta. Her husband said Monday that his 35-year-old wife, six months pregnant with her second child, claimed she was kidnapped by two men and a woman.

Police said at a news conference that she recanted Monday after eight hours of questioning. Hancock will likely be charged with making a false police report, said Police Chief Mike Navarre.
Notice they've already trotted out the "insanity" defense. This story is going to be juicy...

Something's Rotten In Toledo...

Pregnant Attorney Tells Police She Was Kidnapped
A pregnant attorney who was reported missing earlier this week told police on Saturday she had been kidnapped after being found wandering in an industrial area [in Cobb County, Georgia], according to the Toledo police.

Police responding to a call of a disoriented woman wandering in an industrial area found Karyn McConnell-Hancock, 35, who is six months pregnant. She had flagged down a motorist, who called 911, police said.

McConnell-Hancock was found in the parking lot of a Six Flags amusement park, police said.
There's more to this story. We're going to be talking about Karyn McConnell-Hancock just like Jennifer Wilbanks and Susan Smith.

Spanish-American War Redux: Remember the Odyssey!

Spain Seizes Ship In Treasure Row
The Spanish Civil Guard has intercepted a boat operated by a US company amid a row over treasure from a shipwreck.

The guard had been ordered by a Spanish judge to seize the vessel as soon as it left the British colony of Gibraltar.

Gibraltar officials and Odyssey Marine Exploration, which owns the ship, said Spain had boarded the ship illegally as it was in international waters.

In May, Odyssey said it had found $500m (£253m) in coins from a 17th Century wreck somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

Madrid suspects the sunken galleon may either have been Spanish or have gone down in Spanish waters.

The salvaged booty, which included half a million silver coins and hundreds of gold objects, has already been flown back to the US.

Not to worry though, we beat'em once, we can do it again. And all it takes these days is a little smack and the Spanish will run back home as quick as they can.
