The other day, George Jonas passed on to his readers a characteristically shrewd observation gleaned from the late poet George Faludy: “No one likes to think of himself as a coward,” wrote Jonas. “People prefer to think they end up yielding to what the terrorists demand, not because it’s safer or more convenient, but because it’s the right thing . . . Successful terrorism persuades the terrorized that if they do terror’s bidding, it’s not because they’re terrified but because they’re socially concerned.”

This is true. Resisting terror is exhausting. It’s easier to appease it, but, for the sake of your self-esteem, you have to tell yourself you’re appeasing it in the cause of some or other variant of “social justice.” Obviously, it’s unfortunate if “Canadians” get arrested for plotting to murder the artists and publishers of the Danish Muhammad cartoons, but that’s all the more reason to be even more accommodating of the various “sensitivities” arising from the pervasive Islamophobia throughout Western society. Etc. [...]

“And there’s no need for expensive accessories like books or cars or a life,” added Tim Blair of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, “because Barbie in a Bag isn’t allowed to leave her home unless accompanied by a male relative (Mullah Ken, sold separately).”

Dignitas Founder Plans Assisted Suicide Of Healthy Woman

The founder of the Swiss assisted suicide clinic Dignitas was criticised yesterday after revealing plans to help a healthy woman to die alongside her terminally ill husband.

Ludwig Minelli described suicide as a “marvellous opportunity” that should not be restricted to the terminally ill or people with severe disabilities. Critics said that the plans highlighted the risks of proposals to legalise assisted suicides in Britain for people in the final stages of a terminal illness.

I really don't have much to say about this story — it's really too horrible for words — other than to remind you that proponents of the practice said things like this would never happen. I have one question for them... how long until we slide down to this?

In Austria's recent general election, nearly 30 per cent of voters backed extremist right-wing parties. Live visits the birthplace of Hitler to investigate how Fascism is once again threatening to erupt across Europe. [...]

Last September, Austria’s far right gained massive political influence in an election that saw the FPO along with another far right party – Alliance For The Future (BZO) – gain 29 per cent of the vote, the same share as Austria’s main party, the Social Democrats. The election stirred up terrifying memories of the rise of the Nazi Party in the Thirties.

And just as the Nazis gained power on the back of extreme nationalism and virulent anti-Semitism, the recent unprecedented gains in Austria were made on a platform of fear about immigration and the perceived threat of Islam. FPO leader Heinz Christian Strache, for example, described women in Islamic dress as ‘female ninjas’.

Emboldened by the new power in parliament, neo-Nazi thugs have desecrated Muslim graves. Recently, in Hitler’s home town of Braunau, a swastika flag was publicly unveiled.

The FPO wants to legalise Nazi symbols, while its firebrand leader has been accused of having links to far right extremists.

After the FPO’s election victory, Nick Griffin, leader of the British Nationalist Party (BNP), sent a personal message to Strache.

‘We in Britain are impressed to see that you have been able to combine principled nationalism with electoral success. We are sure that this gives you a good springboard for the European elections and we hope very much that we will be able to join you in a successful nationalist block in Brussels next year.’

The message followed on from a secret meeting last May in which a high-ranking FPO politician paid a visit to London for a meeting with Griffin.

The relationship between the FPO and the BNP becomes more worrying as I learn of the strong links between Austria’s political party and hard-line Nazis.

No matter how happy go lucky and multi-culti Europe seems, they're only ever one or two bad experiences away from grabbing their Darth Vader helmets and cleaning house... Book your boxcar back to Istanbul and Morocco now, before the rush...

Minnesota State Agency Offers Islamic Mortgages

For many Minnesota Muslims, it's been virtually impossible to buy a home, because Islamic law forbids the paying or charging of interest. To help close the home ownership gap among Muslim immigrants, the state's housing agency has launched a new program offering Islamic mortgages.

Islamic law does make exceptions to the ban on interest, if one's family is at stake. But the exceptions are open to interpretation and for many observant Muslims, conventional mortgages are strictly taboo.

Nawawi Sheikh is one of them. The Somali-American said he and his wife just couldn't go against their beliefs, even if it meant giving up their dream of owning a home. Still, he grew tired of moving from one rented apartment to another.

Well boo hoo, Nawai. What happened to making choices?

Here's how the mortgage, known as Murabaha financing or "cost plus sale," works:

The state buys a home and resells it to the buyer at a higher price. The down payment and monthly installments are agreed to up front at current mortgage rates.

The deal is identical to a thirty-year fixed-rate loan, except there's no additional interest, because the higher up-front price factors in payments that would have been made over the life of a traditional mortgage.

A handful of private banks and lending institutions offer Islamic mortgages in the U.S., but Minnesota Housing is the first state agency to offer such a product. The program is the brainchild of Hussein Samatar, director of the African Development Center in Minneapolis.

"The process is different, but the outcome will look the same," Samatar said. "We wanted to be as conventional as possible, while respecting the tenets of Islam."

Hey Mr. Samatar, it's not the state's business to find ways to accommodate Islam or any other religion. What happened to that "wall of separation" we hear about from the ACLU all the time? They must think it's only meant to separate Jewish or Christian religion and state. I really wouldn't have a problem with this Murabaha business if it was a private group or agency offering these "loans", but to have the State of Minnesota running this program is hypocritical at best. This program better be available to anyone in Minnesota regardless of religion.

The harsh reality of what happened in an affluent suburb of Buffalo, New York — the beheading of 37-year-old Aasiya Hassan and arrest of her estranged husband in the killing — is another crucible for American Muslims.

Whaaaat? Beheaded? The hell you say? Sigh! Gasp! Woe! Stop "testing" the poor Muslims! Haven't they been through enough already? So many Muslim lives were lost on the high-jacked planes on September 11th, all but one of the Muslims in the Mumbai siege were killed, and don't forget the daily death toll that keeps mounting from those darn explosive belts. How very mendacious of the AP to write this story as if this type of event is a rarity, rather than as common as Paris Hilton at Buckingham Palace. But are you really surprised?

Islam Film Dutch MP To Be Charged

A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put a right-wing politician on trial for making anti-Islamic statements.

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made a controversial film last year equating Islam with violence and has likened the Koran to Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.

"In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to... draw a clear line," the court in Amsterdam said.

Mr Wilders said the judgement was an "attack on the freedom of expression".

"Participation in the public debate has become a dangerous activity. If you give your opinion, you risk being prosecuted," he said.

Not only he, but all Dutch citizens opposed to the "Islamisation" of their country would be on trial, Mr Wilders warned.

"Who will stand up for our culture if I am silenced?" he added.

It'll be entertaining (horrible, but entertaining) to listen to these euro-dolts exclaiming "but but but we defended you!" as they're dragged out of their offices to be beheaded.

UK School Cancels Christmas Nativity In Favour Of Muslim Eid Celebrations

Greenwood Junior School sent out a letter to parents saying the three-day festival of Eid al-Adha, which takes place between December 8 and 11, meant that Muslim children would be off school.

That meant planning for the traditional nativity play were shelved because the school felt it would be too difficult to run both celebrations side by side.

The move has left parents furious. [...]

Following outrage from parents, the school was forced to send out a second letter saying that the Christmas play would be done in January.

Sent by the head teacher, Amber Latif, and Yvonne Wright, chair of governors, it apologised for "any misunderstanding" but said it had to respect "the cultures and religions of all the children".

It added: "The Christmas performance has not been cancelled outright but has been postponed until the New Year."

Now, I can understand the school's choice to move the Christmas celebration. After all, the Christians aren't very likely to go wacky and riot or take hostages over a slight offense. Still, here's how it should work; if no other accommodation can be made the Muslim children and their parents have a choice to make: do they want to be in the Christmas Pageant or do they want to celebrate Eid? The school could also move the Eid observance to January. The Muslims could also send their children to a Muslim school, but given the already great failure to matriculate into British culture I'm not sure I'd encourage that.

‘I was extremely lucky. I was with a very good bunch of people. Three or four of us were Brits. There were some Irish as well. Most were Indian.

'We’d never met each other but I have to say, it was a true British stiff upper-lip situation. Together, the Brits helped to keep up morale.

‘There was a can-do attitude. We thought, 'Let’s get the barricades done, let’s do the practical things rather than sit there like sheep and wait to meet our fate.' [...]

Nick added: ‘We all decided that even though we had alcohol within reach we wouldn’t touch it because it seemed like a bad idea to get drunk.

‘But come 5am, we were fairly confident the police were going to get us out, so I marched over to the bar and found a bottle of vintage Cristal champagne and opened it and began pouring it into glasses.

‘Then the head waiter came rushing across to me and said, “No, no, you can’t do that!” and I said, 'Well we’re going to' and he said, 'No sir, those are the wrong type of glasses. I shall find you champagne flutes.'

'And he did. The service was immaculate.’

A stiff upper lip and an appreciation for good manners... in the middle of a terrorist attack. God bless England and her children!

The World's Most Easily Offended Religion Has To Be Coddled... Again...

Video Game Yanked for Being Offensive to Muslims

One of the fall's most anticipated video games for the PlayStation 3, Sony's "LittleBigPlanet," had to be yanked from shelves at the last minute Monday because it might accidentally offend Muslims.

"One of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Quran," Sony said in a statement Monday. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused."

The piece of music in question is "Tapha Niang" by the Grammy-winning Malian musician Toumani Diabaté, who sings and plays a West African stringed instrument called the kora.

Devotional music doesn't raise eyebrows in many Muslim countries, including several in West Africa including Mali, but it's a no-no for some strict Sunnis, who frown upon instrumented music of any sort.

Oh brother. Lighten up, will ya? Besides, how quickly do you think Sony would fall over themselves to do the same thing for an offended Christian or Jewish group?

Muslims Bash Gay Man In London

A gay man has been left paralyzed after an attack in London:

A 15-YEAR-OLD has appeared in court charged with a "serious homophobic attack" on a gay man who has been left permanently paralysed from the waist down.

The teenager, who can not be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name and East Ham address at Thames Youth Court in Bow yesterday.

Dressed in a white hooded top and dark jeans, the Asian youth at one point held his head in his hands.

Police had earlier charged him with homophobic aggravated assault with intent, occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Was it a bunch of right wing thugs from the British National Party? No. Soccer hooligans out for a night of drinking and carousing? Nope. It was a group of Muslims - identified in liberal Brit parlance as "Asian youth" - that stabbed and beat the man. It's not just England either; attacks like this are becoming all too common in once liberal bastions of Western Europe which are being inundated by Muslim immigration. I would imagine this "Asian youth" is going to demand - as a matter of "human rights" mind you - that he be tried by one of Britain's new Sharia Courts - where his attempt to rid the world of another dirty infidel will be truly appreciated.

Woman Beat, Threatened By 'Modesty Squad'

A 31-year-old Jerusalem woman was cruelly beaten and threatened with death by members of the 'modesty squad' who took it upon themselves to interrogate her about her relationships with men, an indictment filed Thursday by the Jerusalem Prosecution reveals.

This sort of stupidity cannot be tolerated from anyone, Muslim, Jew, or Christian. Still, I'd like to point out that Israel is making a concerted effort to put an end to these "modesty squads" whereas in some Islamic dictatorships such agencies are branches of the government. The reason an attack like this is news when committed by a Jew or Christian is because it's rare. The reason an attack like this is news when committed by a Muslim is because it's so very common, and almost always more violent.
