Ben Franklin Had the Right Idea for New Orleans

Mr. Tierney has a point.

I thought flood insurance was standard. Where I live, flood insurance is a requirement to obtain a mortgage ever since the government designated the area a flood plain (which is weird, because my town has never flooded in its recorded history and is near no rivers).

A little surprised to hear that isn't the case.

Surprising isn't it? BTW - you're up late.

The thing is, I'm almost certain the local floodplain designation came from the federal government during the Reagan administration. If an area 540 feet above sea level near no major rivers must have the insurance, how did the feds not require it for New Orleans of all the places? It's queird.

I'm always up late. I think I was Bram Stoker's muse =)
