Joe The Plumber Snoop Resigns

Ohio Official In "Joe the Plumber" Flap Resigns
An Ohio agency director resigned Wednesday in the wake of a finding that she improperly used state computers to access personal information on the man who became known as "Joe the Plumber" during the presidential campaign. [...]

Department of Job and Family Services Director Helen Jones-Kelley said in a statement accompanying her resignation that she won't allow her reputation to be disparaged and that she is concerned for her family's safety.

"This decision comes after a time of pause, in which I realize that I continue to be used as a political postscript, providing a distraction from urgent state priorities," she said in her statement.

She could not be reached for additional comment Wednesday night.
Good wording on the resignation. Of course the real story to watch here is where Jones-Kelly gets her next job. That will be very interesting - and you better not blink or you'll miss it.

Why Am I Not A Bit Surprised?

Joe The Plumber Says McCain "Appalled" Him
"Joe the Plumber" told conservative radio host Glenn Beck on Tuesday that he felt "dirty" after hitting the campaign trail with Republican presidential nominee John McCain and "seeing some of the things that take place," Politico reported.

Joe Wurzelbacher said he was specifically put off by McCain when it came to talk of the $700 billion bailout.

"When I was on the bus with him, I asked him a lot of questions about the bailout because most Americans did not want that to happen," Wurzelbacher told Beck. "I asked him some pretty direct questions. Some of the answers you guys are gonna receive they appalled me, absolutely.
But he only felt that way about half the ticket. According to Joe, Sarah Palin "is absolutely the real deal..." That doesn't surprise me either. Believe it or not, I actually hate that I was right about McCain, but like Joe I came to feel there was no other choice. Unfortunately.

Excellent Choice

Louisiana Voters Oust Indicted Rep. William Jefferson
Voters in Louisiana ousted indicted Democratic Rep. William Jefferson on Saturday, instead electing a Republican attorney who will be the first Vietnamese-American in Congress.

Unofficial results showed Anh "Joseph" Cao denying Jefferson a 10th term. Republicans made an aggressive push to take the seat from the 61-year-old incumbent, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery, laundering money and misusing his congressional office.

Cao, 41, won a predominantly black and heavily Democratic district that covers most of New Orleans.
Now Jefferson can concentrate on his trial and further development of his "cold cash" refrigeration technology, and the citizens of his district can hopefully have an effective (and honest) leader representing them in Congress.

Paglia & Coulter Sum Up John McCain

Says Camille:
John McCain (like Bob Dole) was a major Republican misfire -- a candidate of personal honor and heroic sacrifice who was woefully inadequate for the times. McCain's lurching grandstanding during the Wall Street crisis made him look like a ham actor on a bender. In debate, McCain was always pugnacious but too often bland or rambling, and he often missed glaring opportunities to score off Obama's vagueness or contradictions.
Ooof! Knee to the groin. Point: Paglia, who also makes a keen observation about Obama's connection with Bill Ayers and how it was used (and not used) by conservatives during the campaign.

Says Ann:
If McCain lost because he ran as a conservative, then how come I knew McCain was going to lose before Brooks did? About the same time Brooks was touting McCain's uncanny ability to attract independents, I was writing, accurately: "John McCain is Bob Dole minus the charm, conservatism and youth."

Using the latest euphemism for "liberal," Brooks complains that "reformist" Republicans like John McCain are forced to run for president as smelly old conservatives: "National candidates who begin with reformist records -- Giuliani, Romney or McCain -- immediately tack right to be acceptable to the power base." (Some "tack" so far to the right they almost adopt the positions in the GOP platform!) [...]

Ironically, McCain was a liberal on virtually every issue except abortion and gay marriage, but he bashed social conservatives to his friends in the press, so they excused his pro-life voting record as a cynical ploy to get votes in Arizona.

So "reformist" evidently means a Republican who is liberal on social issues. My term for that is "Joe Lieberman." Whatever the merit of being liberal on social issues, both Joe Lieberman and the Republican Party's history suggest that the winning formula is the exact opposite combination.
Smack! She finishes him off with an iron right hook. Now let's just hope we can keep the party from lurching any more toward Democrat-lite as 2010 approaches.

America Has Spoken

[Note: This post contains elements from several comments I've left in various places over the past two days as well as parts from previous posts ... I wanted to put all my thoughts together in one piece. ~ KevinQC]

I sincerely wish Mr. Obama well. I strongly disagree with him politically but he is the President and he has my support. Support, but not blind devotion. Mr. Obama won. Now he has to lead. We’ll see how he does at that considering he never has before. I believe he will lead us in the wrong direction, and since I do care about my country I’ll be there every step of the way to tell him when he’s wrong and tell him if he’s right. A robust Loyal Opposition.

I hope the conservative movement - which is still alive and well - doesn’t take the low road that the unhinged left have been on for the last 8 years. For us it should not be about politics and power; but about love for our country and respect for the principles of freedom and liberty it was founded on.

As for McCain, I warned you when I decided to make a go of supporting him that I would say "I told you so." Well, I told you so. His political sun should be allowed to set. I lay the lion’s share of the blame for this loss on our choice of the wrong candidate. They say you have to dance with the one what brung ya… unfortunately our date had two left feet.

The conservative movement can learn from this defeat. Compromising our principles means loss. Watering down our message to appeal to “moderates” and “independents” is a recipe for failure. It’s time for those like McCain, Bill Kristol, Peggy Noonan, John Boehner, Lindsey Graham, Mitt Romney and other Republican politicians and pundits who believe the party’s future lies in that watered down version of conservatism to step aside. They’ve proven they can’t lead.

It’s time to shed the dead weight and focus on our future and the leaders who can bring us back to our foundation and principles. Though this isn’t an exhaustive list, the ones that spring to mind are Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Sarah Palin of Alaska, Mark Sanford of South Carolina, and Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan. They are the future.

Governing Is A Bitch...

From Tammy Bruce:
The American sense of optimism very much probably made people feel safe to vote for the Change Guy. I also think people feel the system is designed to limit the damage one person can do. It's unfortunate they apparently don't remember Jimmy Carter. I also think his supporters are in for a pretty big letdown. Most are going to be rather surprised when they find out they do still have to pay their mortgage and gas all by themselves.

In closing tonight—liberals know how to be out of power and complainers about what everyone else is doing. Now they have to govern and that's an entirely different dynamic. It's up to them now to swim or sink. And it's up to us to plot, plan, and get real about making sure Obama does as little damage as possible as Independent Conservatives work to make sure the Reagan Legacy returns.

Is Obama SATAN INCARNATE? No, he's just your average leftist. Will he DESTROY AMERICA? No, not on purpose anyway.

Mr. Obama won. Now he has to lead. We'll see how he does at that considering he never has before. I simply believe he will lead us in the wrong direction.

And since I do care about my country I'll be there every step of the way to tell him when he's wrong and tell him if he's right. A robust Loyal Opposition.

What She Said...

I'm reprinting Kathy Shaidle's post on Obama's victory in full here, because she's (mostly) right... For the next for years the "Shining City on a Hill" is going to be dimmed to near invisibility. But... I do not agree that America is over, the light may flicker, but it will never go out.
As I write this, FOX News has called Ohio for Obama, which means that -- in spite of the 50/50 popular vote -- Obama wins the Electoral College vote. The only positive consequence of an Obama presidency -- and this is probably just wishful thinking on my part -- is we'll FINALLY stop hearing about slavery every five minutes.

It'll now be more like every ten minutes.

McCain bent over backwards to accomodate Mexicans and they voted for Obama, because his skin is brown. So did the usual guilty white liberals and secular Jews, who also voted for Obama based solely on his skin colour.

Which is what used to be called "racist", until the word came to mean its exact opposite, just like every other word that's been put through the leftwing lexicon laundry.

America has chosen as its leader an unaccomplished, spoiled, cowardly, shallow narcissist who wouldn't last five minutes under torture, let alone five years, and who associates with radical freaks and weirdos. He supports partial birth abortion, and wants to make you pay for it, too.

But since that's an excellent description of millions of other Americans,

America has chosen a false "peace" over principle. Well over half the country is clearly shallow and superficial, too, ready to sell their birthright for "free" "health" "care" and other socialist treats. They want a slick, symbolic President, not a real leader, because a real leader clearly makes them feel inadequate.

McCain's campaign against Obama's socialism didn't work because millions of Americans clearly WANT socialism. Or think they do.

Once again, hardworking Americans will be ordered to "share" their hard earned money with the lazy, the criminal and the stupid.

The hippies won the Culture War without firing too many shots (yet). The long march through the institutions is now complete. These radical leftists were aided and abetted by cocktail party "conservatives" -- who are basically just liberals in bowties.

An Obama presidency will be the final moments of Easy Rider -- in reverse. Forever. The patriots have been defeated by the parasites.
So you go right ahead and "wish Obama well" and say all that "he's my president" stuff. The other side didn't act that way for eight years. The other side won. And I don't have to live there anyway. Alas, those of us looking to America as our last best hope now have to face the fact that there is now nowhere left to run to. America: it was nice while it lasted.
As Mark Steyn just said on Hewitt: America is now a country where Barack Obama live in the same neighborhood as Louis Farakhan and Bill Ayers and be considered perfectly respectable -- but Sarah Palin?! She's that crazy weirdo!! too, I suppose we shouldn't be shocked.
But Mark Steyn also says: "We should have the fight about conservatism's future vigorously and openly — perhaps at Bud's Roadhouse out on Route 137 in lieu of All-Girl Mud-Wrestling Night." And I say absolutely! We need to stand up and yell, and scream, and make sure Mr. Obama doesn't have a cushy four years. We need to be ready to give him a bloody nose in 2010 by improving Congress with the absence of a few Democrats, and then seeing him gracefully off into the history books in 2012.

Obama Wants To Bankrupt The Coal Industry

Want to pay more for electricity? Vote Obama:
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. [...]

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
Here's the audio:

If you vote for Obama, remember him every time you pay your skyrocketing energy bills... if you have any money left to pay them with after THE ONE redistributes your income.

Save A Bull - Vote McCain

Bull Awaits Obama Win In Kogelo Village
Senator Barrack Obama’s relatives have congregated at Nyangoma Kogelo village and will remain together until after Tuesday’s US presidential elections.

They have set aside a bull to slaughter in celebration should the Illinois senator whose father was Kenyan win, according to family spokesperson Mr Malik Abongo.
This must present quite the conundrum for PETA. I wonder what will be slaughtered if Obama loses?

"Governator" Schwarzenegger Mocks "Skinny" Obama

Muscleman-turned-actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger called on Barack Obama to beef up his his policies -- and his body -- at a high-voltage campaign rally for Republican John McCain Friday. [...]

"Every year in March I come here to organize the Arnold Classic, which is all about building the body and pumping," Schwarzenegger said.

"That's why I want to invite Senator Obama because he needs to do something about those skinny legs. I'm going to make him do some squats.

"And then we're going to make him do some biceps curls to beef up those scrawny little arms. But if he could only do something about putting some meat on his ideas.

"Senator McCain on the other hand is built like a rock. His character and his views are solid."

McCain and Schwarzenegger rolled into the Nationwide Arena Hockey Stadium together on the Republican candidate's "Straight Talk Express", the campaign bus that has ferried him on a two-day blitz of this battleground state.
Now that's how you PUMP UP a campaign rally. Sheesh! I'd be happy if Arnold could just pump up his conservatism again...

No We Can't! No We Can't! No We Can't!

Obama Lays Plans To Kill Expectations After Election Victory
Barack Obama's senior advisers have drawn up plans to lower expectations for his presidency if he wins next week's election, amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve.

The sudden financial crisis and the prospect of a deep and painful recession have increased the urgency inside the Obama team to bring people down to earth, after a campaign in which his soaring rhetoric and promises of "hope" and "change" are now confronted with the reality of a stricken economy.

One senior adviser told The Times that the first few weeks of the transition, immediately after the election, were critical, "so there's not a vast mood swing from exhilaration and euphoria to despair."

The aide said that Obama himself was the first to realize that expectations risked being inflated.
Caveat Emptor, here comes the sucker punch. The voters are about to get some "straight talk" on Obama's bullsh-t.

You Have Offended THE ONE! You Are Banished From His Presence!

Purge: Skeptical Reporters Tossed Off Obama's Plane
Obama spokesman Bill Burton confirms Drudge's report that two right-leaning papers, the Washington Times and the New York Post, have lost their seats on the Obama plane, along with the Dallas Morning News.

"We're trying to reach as many swing voters that we can and unfortunately had to make some tough choices. but we are accommodating these folks in every way possible," he said.

The Post and the Morning News are both read primarily in states that aren't in play, but the Washington Times is read in Northern Virginia.

Burton said the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times had returned to the plane, and confirmed that Ebony and Jet magazines have seats on the plane. (The Tribune has had a reporter on the plane for most of the cycle, but recently added a photographer.)
He's not even trying to hide it anymore, is he? The campaign did suggest they try and get a seat on Biden's plane, but that's sort of like being told to sit in the back of the bus isn't it?

Hey Barry, What Was That You Said About Spreading The Wealth?

Obama's Aunt Found Living In Rundown Boston Neighborhood
Barack Obama has lived one version of the American dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story.

Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in Obama's best-selling memoir "Dreams fFrom My Father," lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

A second relative believed to be the long-lost "Uncle Omar" described in the book was beaten by armed robbers with a "sawed-off rifle" while working in a corner shop in the Dorchester area of the city. He was later evicted from his one-bedroom apartment for failing to pay $2,324.20 in bills, according to the Boston Housing Court.
Maybe you should take care of your own house before you start trying to take care of the country.

Obama Is Already Installing His Cabinet

Obama: My Cabinet Would Be Bipartisan
With Election Day less than a week away, presidential candidate Barack Obama said if elected he would choose a bipartisan Cabinet and criticized John McCain's campaign's recent attacks on his economic plan.

Obama told ABC News' Charlie Gibson that he didn't have a list of people he wanted to bring into the government but said "I've got some pretty good ideas about the senior Cabinet of government officials that I think could perform very well for the country. ... I have a good idea of who the candidates would be."
In her latest column, Ann Coulter makes a good prediction about THE ONE's cabinet: Liberals indignantly reject the label "domestic terrorists" for former Weathermen, preferring to call them "future Cabinet members."

Obama Effigy Found On University Of Kentucky Campus
University of Kentucky authorities were investigating Wednesday who hanged an effigy of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama from a tree on campus.

College spokesman Carl Nathe said the effigy was found Wednesday morning. Police immediately took it down. A faculty member said he saw the effigy with a noose around its neck, hanging from a high tree branch.

University President Lee Todd said he planned to apologize to the Obama family on behalf of the school and that he is "personally offended and deeply embarrassed by this disgusting episode."

Federal authorities have been notified, Todd said. He said the effigy violates the university's code of ethics and won't be tolerated.
Hey what's the big deal? It's that time of year after all! "It should be seen as art, and as within the month of October. It's Halloween, it's time to be scary, it's time to be spooky..."

No, No, No! Don't Redistribute MY Wealth!

Blatantly stolen from North Dallas Thirty

From Cafe Hayek:
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need -- the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
h/t to John in IL
