Another Anti-Bush, Anti-War Cinematic Flop

There's been tremendous interest by the public in the box office fate of Oliver Stone's W. for its second weekend in release. Well, it ran out of steam. QED International/Lionsgate's Bush biopic sank 58% to No. 7 with a $5.3M weekend from 2,050 dates and new cume of $18.7M. The $30M negative cost film should end up with $23M domestic box office gross by the end of its North American run. That means, with a $25M P&A investment and Lionsgate's distribution fees, the film won't recoup.

Bush Heckler Arrested After Punching Wheelchair-Bound Girl

A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents had told him to shut up, authorities said Wednesday.

German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.

They had been in the audience to hear the Bushes talk about their children's book, "Read All About It."

"He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, 'What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books,' " said John Lovetro. "He was unperturbed. I said, 'Get out of here! You're being a moron!' "

The next thing he knew, Talis was allegedly punching Maureen, a fan of the first lady since meeting her in 2004.

Liberal Hypocrisy Burns Like Wildfire

So apparently President Bush just can't win with the liberals. Remember how he was criticized for not visiting the Gulf Coast soon enough after Katrina? Well now he's being raked over the burning coals of the California fires for visiting too soon. Yeah, you read that right. Here's a sample of California's Lt. Governor practicing partisanship over public service while being interviewed by Chris Matthews of MSNBC, via NewsBusters:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Is the federal government doing what it has to do here?

Lt. Governor JOHN GARAMENDI (D-CA): Well, they're doing a lot and we appreciate what they have done thus far. Resources are coming in. The U.S. Forest Service, 70 units from Arizona and Nevada and all that's good. I got some doubt about the value of President Bush coming out here...

MATTHEWS: Do you think it's public relations rather than action?

GARAMENDI: Of course it's public relations. The action's taking place by the hard-working firefighters, the men and women and the police that are out there on the line and the community that's pulling together to support each other, that's where the action is taking place. I know -- okay, President Bush comes out, we'll be polite. But frankly, that's not the solution. How about sending our National Guard back from Iraq? So that we have those people available here to help us?

Never mind that there are 17,000 National Guardsmen available that aren't needed. Do the moonbats have any concept of how hypocritical they appear to the average American? Do they care? It's just amazing how blatant they are in their partisan stupidity.

Dan Rather May Seek To Depose President Bush In Lawsuit

And that's the real reason for the lawsuit, folks: Bush Derangement Syndrome

Former "Evening News" Dan Rather choked back tears on several occasions today when discussing his decision to file a lawsuit against CBS and he left many audience members with a sense that he may call President George W. Bush as a witness should the lawsuit proceed to trial (and Rather said he hoped it would).

When asked by Carol Joynt, host of the "Q&A Café" held at Nathans restaurant who worked with Rather at CBS in the 1970s, whether "he'd like to" call President Bush as a witness in the trial, Rather said "I'd like not to answer the question," leaving both Joynt and audience members wondering whether the newsman has Bush in his sights." Joynt later told Yeas & Nays, "From the look in his eye -- and he gave me a definite Ratheresque look -- I got the impression he will call the president as a witness. Possibly both of them: 41 and 43. He implied the suit is not against them, but what the suit is about stems directly from his antagonistic relationship with them."

The poor man just cannot accept that he was wrong, that the story was false, that he deserved the ass-kicking he got for such blatant partisan lies.

Poor Dan Rather just can't get over the ignominious end of his career at CBS.

Rather: Government Influencing Newsrooms

Dan Rather said Thursday that the undue influence of the government and large corporations over newsrooms spurred his decision to file a $70 million lawsuit against CBS and its former parent company.

"Somebody, sometime has got to take a stand and say democracy cannot survive, much less thrive with the level of big corporate and big government interference and intimidation in news," he said on CNN's "Larry King Live." [...]
Rather narrated the September 2004 report that said Bush disobeyed orders and shirked some of his duties during his National Guard service. It also said a commander felt pressured to sugarcoat Bush's record.

The story relied on four documents, supposedly written by Bush's commander in the Texas Air National Guard, the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian. Critics questioned the documents' authenticity and suggested they were forged.

A panel selected by the network to investigate the story determined that it was neither fair nor accurate. CBS fired the story's producer and asked for the resignations of three executives because it could not authenticate documents used in the story. Rather was forced out of the anchor chair he had occupied for 24 years.

On CNN, Rather dismissed the panel's review, claiming it was not impartial.

"This was in many ways a fraud. It was a setup," he told King.

The poor man still believes the National Guard story meant to tarnish President Bush during the 2004 campaign was true, although now he claims to only be the narrator and not the hard hitting journalist he's always portrayed himself to be. It's quite sad, really.

Keep On Pretending Scott

I posted a comment about the following story over at Scott-o-Rama's site on his post Let's Pretend II, but since it disagrees with his worldview and most likely will never see the light of day or be deleted milliseconds after appearing (how's that for the Left's openness and tolerance? You're welcome to an opinion...as long as it's theirs!) I'll post about it here too. FYI, it seems Scott-o-Rama has also banned That Gay Conservative from accessing his site or commenting on it. I guess we should also "pretend" that Scott-o-Rama believes in actual debate and conversation.

Spy Chief Reveals Classified Details

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell pulled the curtain back on previously classified details of government surveillance and of a secretive court whose recent rulings created new hurdles for the Bush administration as it tries to prevent terrorism.

—Offering never-disclosed figures, McConnell also revealed that fewer than 100 people inside the United States are monitored under FISA warrants. However, he said, thousands of people overseas are monitored.

McConnell's comments were a dramatic departure from the government's normally tight-lipped approach to disclosing any information about how it spies on electronic communications—some of its most sensitive and costly work. The FISA court's activities are particularly protected.

Even as he shed new light on the classified operations, McConnell asserted that the current debate in Congress about whether to update the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act will cost American lives because of all the information it revealed to terrorists.

"Part of this is a classified world. The fact that we're doing it this way means that some Americans are going to die," he said.

Oh yeah, that wire-tapping is just out of control. 100 people in the United States monitored under warrant! Never mind the fact that the left's whining and moaning - obviously about nothing - has made us more vulnerable to the Jihadists and who knows what other enemies, even as the threats to our nation have increased. Just so they don't have to worry about buying Scotts Turf Builder.

Irrational Fear-o-Rama

Scott-o-Rama is afraid that the big bad gubmint is gonna be taking notes on his daily life...

Let me ask you this. Would you rather our government did nothing if they found a citizen consorting with possible (or known) terrorists overseas or at home? Even if the citizen had no idea his new “friends” might actually be trying to attack his country? Or would you rather that they do their j-o-b, which is to protect and defend us.

It all comes down to ones fundamental beliefs about our nation. Scott-o-Rama is afraid of his government and thinks that there is an active, powerful, shadowy movement afoot seeking to strip us of our rights and presumably lock us up in Republican run re-education camps. Which is odd, because at times he also seems to think it's incompetent. “Fiendishly incompetent,” yeah, right.

I think random abuses do occur (not that what S-o-R described in his post would be an abuse), but on the whole the government does it’s job well. It certainly doesn’t waste time investigating unless it has a very good reason; and it isn’t giving up “essential liberty” to allow the government to investigate possible crimes. Sheesh.

Cindy Sheehan came to town to protest/further-her-political-ambitions but ended up hightailing it outta there when she realized she might actually have to support some of her idiotic claims with facts and reason. Convicted Adulterer Stoned To Death In Iran

TEHRAN, Iran — In a rare confirmation, Iran on Tuesday said a man convicted of adultery was stoned to death last week in a village in the northern part of the country, Iran's judiciary spokesman said.

Jafar Kiani was stoned to death in Aghchekand village, 124 miles west of the capital, Tehran, on Thursday, Ali Reza Jamshidi told reporters. It was the first time in years that Iran has confirmed such an execution.

"This verdict was carried out Thursday," Jamshidi told reporters.

And yet, there are those among your fellow Americans and fellow Westerners who see their own culture and governments as the source of evil in the world. Topsy. Turvy.
