Mexico Slams Burger King For 'Whopper' Of An Insult

Mexico is protesting what it says is a whopper of an insult.

An advertisement for Burger King's chili-flavored "Texican" burger that has run in Europe shows a small wrestler dressed in a cape resembling a Mexican flag. The wrestler teams up with a lanky American cowboy twice his height to illustrate the cross-border blend of flavors.

"The taste of Texas with a little spicy Mexican," a narrator's voice says.

The much-taller cowboy boosts the wrestler up to reach high shelves and clean tall windows, while the Mexican helps the cowboy open a jar.

Mexico's ambassador to Spain said Monday he has written a letter to Burger King's offices in that nation objecting to the ad and asking that it be removed. Jorge Zermeno told Radio Formula that the ads "improperly use the stereotyped image of a Mexican."

Hahahahahaha! I must disagree; I think BK quite properly used the "stereotyped image of a Mexican".

I gotta say though, Mexico has some nerve considering this, and this, and this, and this.

Mexicans: they can dish it out, but they can't take it. My advice? Tienes que relajar, amigos.

Brave Gays Target Elderly Woman

Restaurant Manager To Leave El Coyote Over Prop. 8 Controversy

Frontiers magazine learned Saturday Marjorie Christoffersen is stepping down as a manager at the Los Angeles restaurant El Coyote. Bill Schoeppner, a fellow manager at El Coyote who has been with the restaurant for 26 years, told Frontiers Christoffersen was also resigning as a member of El Coyote's board of directors.

“She no longer works here,” Schoeppner said on Saturday. “She just told me tonight.”

Christoffersen created a firestorm of controversy for the 77-year-old L.A. institution after local blogs broke the news she had donated $100 to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign. Long a popular destination for the LGBT community for its cheap Mexican food and generous Margaritas, El Coyote found itself the target of boycotts and demonstrations after Christoffersen's donation went public. In a press conference hosted by the restaurant days after the news of the donation broke, Christoffersen tried to explain her donation did not have to do with animus for gay and lesbian people, but was instead tied to her Mormon faith.

I'm so proud of my brave fellow gays for bringing down Marjorie Christoffersen - that elderly pillar of homophobia. Way to go boys and girls! Putting a senior citizen out of work who donated $100 to support Prop 8 because of her religious beliefs should get us the right to marry quicker than a drag queen's snap.

Note to liberals... everything above was sarcasm.

As someone who would like to see the same legal benefits and duties of marriage extended to gays and lesbians I would like to kindly ask you to sit down and shut up if the only way you know to protest is by harassment and bullying.

Boycotting a business or event is an acceptable way to make your feelings known. Targeting individuals in the same hateful manner in which you claim to have been targeted is not.

I'm sure many ordinary gay-marriage supporters deplore what happened to Marjorie. But this is now the face of their movement: agree with us, or we will hurt you.

I am appalled at the way Marjorie has been treated. Again, I find myself compelled to apologize for the childish, brutish, and irresponsible actions of far too many of my fellow gay and lesbian citizens. And the thing that really hacks me off about this, is that 99.9% of the spoiled, self-centered American gays who are treating Prop. 8 like their own personal pogrom have never known one day of true discrimination or hardship in their lives.

Activists Target Mormons for Gay-Marriage Ban's Success in California

In the nearly four weeks since Election Day, gay activists and thousands of their supporters have rallied outside Mormon temples around the country, protesting the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' support for California's Proposition 8, the ballot initiative to make same-sex marriage illegal in the Golden State.

There have been calls to boycott the annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah; some activists have called for a boycott of the entire state of Utah. Protesters have defaced some church buildings, and in Arapaho County, Colo., the Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible hate crime — the torching of the Book of Mormon on a church's doorstep.

Can you imagine, I mean even imagine the uproar if a group gathered on the steps of a gay community center and burned a copy of "Heather Has Two Mommies," "Daddy's Roommate," or "The Joy of Gay Sex"? Here's a tip for you ladies, throwing a collective temper tantrum isn't going to win you any friends.

A Christian law firm will appeal a ruling by the New Mexico Human Rights Commission fining a photographer who refused to take photos of a homosexual commitment ceremony.

Elaine Huguenin and her husband Jon, who co-own Elane Photography in Albuquerque, New Mexico, are both Christians. So when a lesbian couple asked them to photograph their "commitment ceremony" in Taos, the Huguenins politely refused. In response, Vanessa Willock filed a complaint with the New Mexico Human Rights Commission claiming the Huguenins discriminated against her because of her "sexual orientation." On Wednesday, the Commission found the Christian couple guilty of discrimination under state anti-discrimination laws and ordered them to pay more than $6,000 in costs.

The disease of government sanctioned political correctness and multicultural claptrap is spreading and it's a danger to us all.

Phyllis Burgess learned first hand that the left's tolerance extends only so far as you agree with them. Go beyond that and you're open to being physically attacked:

The woman at the center of a disturbance that erupted on Friday at a protest against the gay marriage ban says she plans to press charges.

Phyllis Burgess alleges that she was assaulted as she carried a Styrofoam cross through the crowd at a No on Proposition 8 rally in front of Palm Springs City Hall.

As reported on mydesert.com, the 69-year-old Palm Springs resident originally declined to press charges when asked by police and joked that she felt lucky — that at least she didn't lose her wig in the tussle like Cloris Leachman did on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“I guess I didn't see the gravity of the whole thing and how it was being portrayed to the public,” Burgess said. “People are incensed. They seem to want some kind of justice.”

What was planned as a peaceful candlelight service took a hostile turn when the crowd began pushing and a cross was torn from Burgess' arms. The cross ended up in pieces on the ground.

The crowd chanted, “Go home!” “Nazi!” and “Shame on you!” as organizers pleaded with the crowd to ignore the woman. About 500 protesters attended the event, the largest in the county since 52 percent of voters approved Proposition 8, an amendment that banned same-sex marriage.

Don't you just love the lost irony? They were calling her a "Nazi" while they behaved like... well... Nazis. What part of "peaceably to assemble" don't they get? Here's the video:



Yes that's right. The gays aren't going to be bullied by ferocious little old Christian women anymore! Take that you elderly thug! It didn't end there either. When a reporter tried to interview Ms. Burgess later the same queens who attacked her earlier gave a repeat performance and they both had to flee for safety:


Oh those courageous homos! Stomping on crosses for equal rights! What also gets my dander up is that I know that 99.9% of the people protesting didn't take advantage of the right to marry and have no intention of doing so even if Prop 8 is overturned; including that charming gentleman in the white shirt. Here's a hint, a black shirt would be more slimming.

Now don't get me wrong, this is a contentious issue. After all, we're talking about changes to millennia of cultural tradition. I disagree with Ms. Burgess. I think think that people who want to get married should be able too; it's a matter of equal rights plain and simple. Personally I think the whole argument boils down to semantics, i.e. the word "marriage." Well fine, don't call it marriage. Exempt religious institutions from having to recognize it. As long as the rights, privileges, and duties are the same I don't care if we call it Blueberry Sherbet.

I wonder if Joe.My.God will share the outrage? No, no, of course not. He only gets his tits in a twist if someone says boo! to a gehy. Oh and circuit parties; he gets them twisted at circuit parties too.

The people responsible for this insanity do not speak for me, and the rest of you have my sincere apologies for my fellow gays' stupidity.

Author Censored Over Fears Of Muslim Violence

Apparently Islam doesn't need to control our country in order to exert it's stifling influence:

Publisher Random House has pulled a novel about the Prophet Mohammed's child bride, fearing it could "incite acts of violence."

"The Jewel of Medina," a debut novel by journalist Sherry Jones, 46, was due to be published on August 12 by Random House, a unit of Bertelsmann AG, and an eight-city publicity tour had been scheduled, Jones told Reuters on Thursday.

The novel traces the life of A'isha from her engagement to Mohammed, when she was six, until the prophet's death. Jones said that she was shocked to learn in May, that publication would be postponed indefinitely.

What an absolutely disgusting and shameful decision. Way to go Random House, your testicles will kept safe in an undisclosed location. As soon as Ms. Jones finds another publisher, there will be a prominent link to her book on this blog. You can already find it for order on Amazon - not sure if they'll keep the link up.

One of my readers was upset at a word (let's call it the "F" word) used in a comment left on this post. I must say I don't share his offense. One, because I'm familiar with the person who used it and I know how it was intended, and two, because quite frankly I thought it appropriate; and funny. Feel free to disagree. The "F" word doesn't really offend me because as Whoopi Goldberg said of the "N" word "it's not bad to me because I don't know any and I've never been one. So when I hear somebody say it, I don't turn around." I realize that my attitude may be unique and the word can be upsetting. Still, while I don't want to purposely cause my readers discomfort, I'm also not going to censor them or myself.

It seems that Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin doesn't like to be questioned: Police Director Sues For Critical Bloggers' Names

Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin and the city of Memphis have filed a lawsuit to learn who operates a blog harshly critical of Godwin and his department.

The lawsuit asks AOL to produce all information related to the identity of an e-mail address linked to MPD Enforcer 2.0, a blog popular with police officers that has been extremely critical of police leadership at 201 Poplar.

"In what could be a landmark case of privacy and the 1st Amendment," the anonymous bloggers write on the site, "Godwin has illegally used his position and the City of Memphis as a ram to ruin the Constitution of the United States.

"Some members of the Enforcer 2.0 have contacted their attorneys and we are in the process of filing a lawsuit against Larry and the City of Memphis. What's wrong Larry? The truth hurt?"

I'm Warning You, Don't Get Complacent About Liberty

I wrote here about the travesty being committed against Maclean's magazine and Mark Steyn (as well as others, including blogger friend of QC, Kathy Shaidle at Five Feet of Fury) in Canada, and I warned you that complacency is dangerous even in our great nation. Here's more proof: Hate speech or free speech? What much of West bans is protected in U.S.

Some prominent legal scholars say the United States should reconsider its position on hate speech.

"It is not clear to me that the Europeans are mistaken," Jeremy Waldron, a legal philosopher, wrote in The New York Review of Books last month, "when they say that a liberal democracy must take affirmative responsibility for protecting the atmosphere of mutual respect against certain forms of vicious attack."

Waldron was reviewing "Freedom for the Thought That We Hate: A Biography of the First Amendment" by Anthony Lewis, the former New York Times columnist. Lewis has been critical of attempts to use the law to limit hate speech.

But even Lewis, a liberal, wrote in his book that he was inclined to relax some of the most stringent First Amendment protections "in an age when words have inspired acts of mass murder and terrorism." In particular, he called for a re-examination of the Supreme Court's insistence that there is only one justification for making incitement a criminal offense: the likelihood of imminent violence.

Make no mistake, the powers of political correctness have our first amendment in their sights.

Maclean’s, Mark, & Muslims

As you may have heard, Maclean's magazine and Mark Steyn are being brought up before the Human Rights Commission in British Columbia and Ontario and are also being sued in Canadian federal court. You can find background on the case here. What's the brouhaha about? Maclean's printed an excerpt from Steyn's book America Alone, and as you know, for Muslims - the truth hurts. I'm reading Steyn's book now, and I highly recommend it. It's a brilliant description of the future we face.

Kathy at Five Feet of Fury brought to my attention this video of a debate between Mark Steyn and his three accusers who are Muslim law students. Or as you'll probably conclude after watching their debate mediocre law students. I wouldn't let them defend a toothless dog in a dog bite trial.

Make no mistake, this is an important case for our neighbors to the north and it will set a tone for years to come. It shows how Muslims will use the overly sensitive political correctness of Canadian political systems to wring the rights away from their adopted country one complaint at a time.

We're in eminent danger people, and it would behoove us all to take notice of it.

Jet Setting McCain And The Letter Of The Law

John McCain says "F. U." to his own campaign finance reform law

Given Senator John McCain’s signature stance on campaign finance reform, it was not surprising that he backed legislation last year requiring presidential candidates to pay the actual cost of flying on corporate jets. The law, which requires campaigns to pay charter rates when using such jets rather than cheaper first-class fares, was intended to reduce the influence of lobbyists and create a level financial playing field.

But over a seven-month period beginning last summer, Mr. McCain’s cash-short campaign gave itself an advantage by using a corporate jet owned by a company headed by his wife, Cindy McCain, according to public records. For five of those months, the plane was used almost exclusively for campaign-related purposes, those records show.

Mr. McCain’s campaign paid a total of $241,149 for the use of that plane from last August through February, records show. That amount is approximately the cost of chartering a similar jet for a month or two, according to industry estimates.

The senator was able to fly so inexpensively because the law specifically exempts aircraft owned by a candidate or his family or by a privately held company they control. The Federal Election Commission adopted rules in December to close the loophole — rules that would have required substantial payments by candidates using family-owned planes — but the agency soon lost the requisite number of commissioners needed to complete the rule making.

Because that exemption remains, Mr. McCain’s campaign was able to use his wife’s corporate plane like a charter jet while paying first-class rates, several campaign finance experts said. Several of those experts, however, added that his campaign’s actions, while keeping with the letter of law, did not reflect its spirit. [...]

Last summer, just before starting to use his wife’s plane, Mr. McCain was quoted in a newspaper report as saying that he did not plan to tap her substantial wealth to keep his bid for the Republican presidential nomination going.

“I have never thought about it,” Mr. McCain was quoted by The Arizona Republic as saying at a July appearance. “I would never do such a thing, so I wouldn’t know what the legalities are.”

Yes, yes he's using a loophole but that's a crappy excuse. Shouldn't we expect the author of the law and one of its most staunch supporters to forgo using the loopholes in it because it's convenient for him!? Apparently not. It reminds me of this Calvin & Hobbes cartoon:

Tensions Over Olympics In Bejing Still Ratcheting Up

Athletes Who Take Tibet Stand "Face Olympic Cut"

Athletes who display Tibetan flags at Olympic venues — including in their own rooms — could be expelled from this summer’s Games in Beijing under anti-propaganda rules.

Jacques Rogge, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said that competitors were free to express their political views but faced sanctions if they indulged in propaganda.

He accompanied those comments with an admission that the Games were in “crisis” after pro-Tibet protests engulfed the Olympic torch relay.

Mr Rogge’s call for Beijing to abide by its promise to address human rights was given short shrift by Beijing, which bluntly told him to keep politics out of the Games.

The Red Chinese and the IOC using similar tactics. It looks like authoritarian birds of a feather will flock together. I've lived in an Olympic city and let me tell you, the IOC is nothing but a bunch of bastards. This Olympiad is going to be a complete cluster-fuck. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present this year.

Iran seems to be running into a stone wall when it comes to asking the West to betray it's beliefs in order to stay in line with Islam's dictates. First Denmark, now Holland:

Iranian government Urges Netherlands To Ban Qur’an Film

The Iranian justice minister, Gholam Hussein Elham, wrote to his Dutch counterpart, Ernst Hirsch Ballin, calling for a ban. He urged Ballin to prevent this "provocative and satanic act on the basis of European Convention on Human Rights.

"We must not allow the freedom of speech … to be used as a cover for assaulting the sensibilities, and exalted moral and religious values which are respected by all of humanity," Elham said in the letter.

Holland has declined to do Iran's censoring. Good for them. The Dutch have, however, made plans to evacuate their nationals from the Middle East when the predictable Muslim violence begins.

Denmark Holds Fast

Just as tiny Denmark held fast against Nazi oppression and helped block the tide of barbarism against Danish jews during the German occupation in World War II, the small but courageous nation is again refusing to bend to the insane demands of a totalitarian regime; this time the mad Mullahs in Iran:

On behalf of the committee in Iran who was supposed to host the Danes, the Iranian ambassador in Denmark writes in a letter Saturday that the case would risk overshadowing the visit. The Iranians therefore ask for the Danes to condemn the fact that a whole range of newspapers have republished one of the cartoons. [...]

Today the Danish Board of Foreign Policy Matters unanimously have canceled a planned trip to Iran after the Iranian ambassador demanded an apology for the reprinting of the Mohammed cartoons. That is, every single member from the far right to the far left has collectively made it crystal clear to the Iranians that under no conditions will they try to interfere with the press, or even worse, make an apology. And since this is an ultimatum from the Iranians, the trip is canceled!

“We are not the ones who have a need for making apologies. If anyone has a reason to make an apology related to questions about freedom of speech, human rights, executions, and lack of democracy, it is the Iranians. And that was exactly the intention of the trip, that we could tell the government and others that there exist a whole range of conditions in Iran that we do not like,” says Søvndal to Ritzau.

And keep in mind, these are the Danish socialists talking! If only the rest of Europe (if only the rest of the Western world!) were like the Danes.
