OREGON BICYCLIST CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER
I cannot tell you how many times each day I see cyclists blatantly ignore the rules of the road. They run through stop-signs and red lights, rush to the front of traffic queues and routinely cut off other vehicles. I once had a co-worker who road his bike to work and I commented to him on how rude I found cyclists to be at times. He told me with unapologetic arrogance that they generally ignore the rules because of the maneuverability that their two-wheeled conveyances afford them. This while having the unmitigated gall to slap a "Share The Road" bumper sticker on his car!
The next time I hear a cyclist bemoaning the lack of courtesy from the automobile set I'm going to be sure to tell them the story of Jean Calder, and remind them that whether you ride on two wheels or four, courtesy is a two-way street.
