Someday, maybe, perhaps, if things go right, and the stars are correctly aligned, the Saudis might, just
might let women drive...but not anytime soon. Hey they shouldn't get ahead of themselves after all. Easing into the 20th century is something that must be done carefully and slowly, very, very slowly. Besides, they need to get through the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries first. Let's be patient, for Allah's sake, and give'em a chance to work on this for while!
The king of Saudi Arabia says women may eventually be allowed to drive in the kingdom.
[...]
Abdullah, who became king on the death of his half-brother Fahd in August, told ABC that he was committed to increasing the rights of Saudi women, who are currently not permitted to drive cars and who need a male relative's permission to travel abroad or attend university.
"I believe the day will come when women drive," he said. "In fact, if you look at the areas in Saudi Arabia, the deserts and in the rural areas, you will find that women do drive.
Driving licenses for women "will require patience. In time, I believe it will be possible," the king said in the ABC report, which was posted on the Internet.
But when pressed on whether he would legalize female driving, Abdullah indicated Saudi men were too conservative for such a step any time soon.
"I value and take care of my people as I would my eyes ... I respect my people," he said.
Note the wording: "my people." Make no mistake, he isn't speaking figuratively, he actually regards the people of his country as his property.

You have to understand something -- the United States underwent growing pains to reach the stage where it is today.
Saudi Arabia, as a nation, has prospered so fast in only 74 years, going from nothing to the modernized society.
Its society is not ready to adapt everything at will. Only time will permit the people to change itself.
Let Saudi Arabia handle itself without YOUR interferences.

And yet, if they didn't allow deaf people to drive you'd be ready to nuke'em.
