While I don't condone Farris Hassan running off to a war zone, deceiving his parents in the process, one must admit he has a lot more chutzpah than most of the mainstream media that stays holed up in the "green zone" - and definitely more brass than me. Farris had this to say about his experiences:
"There is a struggle in Iraq between good and evil, between those striving for freedom and liberty and those striving for death and destruction," he wrote.
"Those terrorists are not human but pure evil. For their goals to be thwarted, decent individuals must answer justice's call for help. Unfortunately altruism is always in short supply. Not enough are willing to set aside the material ambitions of this transient world, put morality first, and risk their lives for the cause of humanity. So I will."

Come on - although he has shown a bit of chuzpah, he has also been a bit of a prat, and could quite possibly have put others in danger by his stunt.
Oh absolutely, you are correct. He did a stupid and dangerous thing. If I was his father and he survived the trip, I'd kill him when got home; or at least burn his passport.
But - he obviously has a lot of gumption, and I'll just bet we hear from him again - sooner, rather than later.
There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity, sometimes. I believe he might have erred on the side of stupidity.
No doubt, he risked his life like only a teenager can.
