The American Soldier
From 11Alive.com:
A 3-month-old Iraqi infant who suffered from spina bifida was recovering from surgery Monday night.I couldn't be more proud of the soldiers from my state, or of all of Americas soldiers.
Baby Noor underwent surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta on Monday to close a spine that protruded from her back.
Iraqi doctors told the 3-month-old girl’s parents they couldn’t treat the condition and the baby would likely die.
When some Georgia National Guard troops learned of her plight, they worked with the hospital to get her some help.
On Monday afternoon, doctors said that the life-saving surgery went very well, but that Baby Noor will suffer long-term health affects.
The non-profit organization Child Spring International organized Baby Noor’s trip to Atlanta.
The Georgia National Guardsman who first discovered Baby Noor and arranged her trip to the U.S. anxiously awaited word on her condition.
First Lt. Jeff Morgan says he was looking for terrorists when he found Baby Noor al-Zahra in an apartment near Baghdad.
“I saw her and I saw the family. They were living in the slums of Abu Ghraib. They needed our help and we were able to do it,” Morgan said.
