Clemency huh? Letmethinkaboutitno!
After years of silence, the father of American-born Taliban soldier John Walker Lindh said Thursday he has asked President Bush to grant his son clemency, adding that the then teenager never raised arms against the United States.Ah, foolish youth. It still won't quite cover the bill though.
"In simple terms, this is the story of a decent and honorable young man embarked on a spiritual quest," said Frank Lindh, swallowing back tears at times during a speech at the Commonwealth Club, a nonprofit organization.
Until now, his parents have mostly maintained a public silence about the case, hoping to avoid a media barrage that could be detrimental to their son. But on Thursday Frank Lindh shared baby pictures and other photos of his son during the presentation and said he is proud of his child.Oh, how cute, here's John-John with his first Kalishnikov! Oh, and that's the body of the girl from his first honor killing - it was their first (and last) date. Uh, and who knew that Toys'Я'Us made a "baby's first strap-on explosive device," how sweet.
Lindh said he decided to break his silence because he hoped the story of his boy's journey from bucolic Marin County to harsh Afghanistan battlefields will help gain him a reprieve.Uh, dad dude, that "journey" is what got him into this mess. I just don't think this is going to the top of the White House priority list.

Lindh is a traitor who is very lucky he wasn't put before a firing squad.
Let me get this straight. Lindh Sr. wants clemency for his son who has already plead-out for the sake of a lenient sentence that rightly could have been carried out in Afganistan by a Marine assigned to the CIA. Walker was already a POW and could have been shot during he same POW uprising that cost the life of his infidel enemy Capt Spann, USMC.
On the other hand we have one Corporal Sheehan, killed while on duty executing his country's commitments; a deed of merit repeated and recognized as virtuous throughout the histories of all countres. Most of these heroes were youths whose patriotic zeal was nourished in their homes before their service.
In Corporal Sheehan's case his commitment has been denigrated by his mother after his leaving home and giving his service.
Perhaps Lindh Sr. would like Cathy Sheehan to assist in opposing the brutal incarceration of his 'un-guided' son.
They could unite under "Dysfunctional Parents Against Common Sense".
Robin Moore devotes a chapter of "The Hunt for Bin Laden" to the siege and gun battle where Capt Spann lost his life. Lindh was Al Qaeda not the American Taliban as our beloved media chose to label him. He trained in Al Qaeda camps. According to Special Forces on the ground, he was a major contributor at the event. Sadly, as it now stands, he will be out of prison before Ohio Congressman Jim Traficant who was found guilty of having staffers do some farm work among some other indiscretions. A sniper's bullet is to swift and noble for young Lindh.
