The American Left Is Really Really Screwy
Sistani: "Gays Should Be Killed in Worst Way Possible."
Of course the American liberals are all over him like white on rice! Oh no, they aren't condemning him. They have a more horrible enemy to confront. Their own country!

You're too kind. Screwy is not the word. How about self-loathingly corrupt? Here in the Castro in SF there are invites on the telephone poles asking us to come to a rally against the theocratic designs of the Christian Right, "who want to recruit Christian soliders to invade Muslim countries". Horrors. Just makes ya wanna puke.
So now American liberals are responsible for Sistani? I suggest you check out juancole.com, where you’ll find a detailed critique of the Bush Administration mistakes/polices that have led to the inordinate amount of influence the ayatollah now enjoys. One can simultaneously criticize the religious right as a threat to our secular democracy while strongly condemning Sistani as an illiberal threat to human rights in Iraq. One thing is for certain- his “preeminence” in Iraq is most definitely not the fault of liberals.
Tommy,
It's not blaming the left for Sistani. It's taking them to task for their attitude about their own country. Willing to overlook any wrong or evil in order to cast blame on and castigate their own nation first.
The American Left indulges in being "Left" only for the sake of being "Left".
It might serve itself well to look at the Social Democrats of Europe that it seems to regard so highly.
These regimes have indulged in poitical largesse to the point that they don't even govern (this with the nationlizing of service industries and government subsidies that de facto control the media).
Instead, they appease the immigrant populations in their countries and fail to adher to their own laws against individuals in fear of overall anarchy. They have been allowing for culturally alien interpretation of their own laws and even consenting to thier jurisdictions and findings.
This trend has just about given a contemporary legitimacy to the concept of Weimar; letting the mobs rule and settling for less. We know what happened followiing that experiment.
