Duke-ing It Out
Here's my opinon. First, it's going to get worse before it gets better. Second, no one involved is innocent, whether or not a rape took place. Let's take quick look at the cast of characters in this drama:
The Athletes: Frat boy jocks who, whether guilty or innocent, probably need an ice cold dash of reality thrown on their "party."
The Stripper: A woman who sells her body to make a living. Don't get me wrong, she has a right to do as she pleases in that regard, but in so doing she gives up any claim to "innocent victim" in this case.
The Second Stripper: A woman who sells her body to make a living. Don't get me wrong, she has a right to do as she pleases in that regard, but in so doing she gives up any claim to "innocent victim" in this case. Having first said that she didn't think there had been a rape, she changed her story rather quickly after speaking to a PR firm in New York. She's been rather honest about her desire to make some "bling" off the situation, unfortunately, at the price of her credibility.
The District Attorney: A man who is obviously more concerned with re-election than justice. This high profile case dropped in his lap just in time to be exploited for the upcoming vote. You may have heard about how he "stacked" the line-up by only showing the accuser pictures of lacrosse team members. No matter who she picked, he had a case.
The Race Baiters: Specifically Jesse Jackson and the New Black Panthers who just can't resist rushing into the spotlight to remind their constituencies that America is still a boiling pot of racial hatred and injustice. And they should know - they do everything they can to keep the fires stoked.
The Media: The accuser might be a stripper, but the media is the real whore in this ordeal. Purveyors of 24/7 raunch. Eager for a scoop, they inflate and draw out the details to the most sensational limits. Electronic Neros who fiddle on about missing blonde tourists and cruise ship mysteries while Dafur burns.
And last, but not least...
You and me: Yes, we're a part of this mess too, and perhaps the most truly guilty of the bunch. Why? Because we tolerate such crass foolishness from our children, our fellow citizens, our media, and our government officials. And shame on us for doing so.

You mentioned the race pimps in your comments. Take particular notice of the absence of Rev. Al Sharpton in this case. Ordinarily he'd be there with Je$$e, but this case cuts a little too close to the Tawana Brawley debacle for him.
