Petty Officer 3rd Class Ariel J. Weinmann has pleaded guilty to espionage. He tried to sell classified and secret information from a laptop he stole to several foreign governments. He faces life in prison. In his guilty plea he said:
Weinmann told the judge, who had yet to accept the plea, that he deserted the Navy in July 2005 because the service did not meet his expectations. [QC: Perhaps prison can meet those expectations.]
Weinmann told the judge he believed his actions could hurt morale and security.
"I believe if it fell into the wrong hand, sir, the information could be detrimental to the United States," Weinmann said.
Personally, I think all convictions of treason should carry the death penalty. I have zero sympathy for traitors, and I hope he gets a warm spot in hell next to
Benedict Arnold and the
Rosenbergs.
