I must admit, the audition phase of American Idol has been one of my favorite bits of naughty television viewing for several years, but not anymore. Last season I began to feel quite uncomfortable with the way the "losers" were treated. This year has just been horrible. I completely agree with
Rosie O'Donnell who said:
“If you keep serving people crap, they’re eventually going to think it’s a meal,” Rosie touted. “Three millionaires… one probably intoxicated. So sad.”
“To make fun of someone’s physical appearance, is this what America thinks is entertainment?”
Don't get me wrong, there will always be people on that show who need to be disabused of the idea that they can sing. What I'm talking about is the way some of those people are obviously led on by the producers of the show to think they have a shot only to be humiliated by Simon, Paula, and Randy before a national audience. They go well past the point of honest criticism of the person's talent, or lack thereof. It's become a cruel sideshow that has little to do with the subject of the program. I'm pretty much done with A.I. at this point.
