Barack Obama 'Wanted To Join US Military'Barack Obama has said he considered joining the United States military when he left school but decided not to because the Vietnam war was over and "we weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point".
The statement is thought to be the first time during the 19-month-long presidential campaign that the Democratic nominee for the White House has indicated he once wanted to serve in uniform. The aspiration was not mentioned in either of his two volumes of memoirs.
Well this is a sudden - and convenient - revelation! He goes on to say that he saw military service as ennobling and honourable. Of himself or his country? John McCain on the other hand views his military career as
service to his country that created a passion in him to help make it better, not a place or means to ennoble himself. Oh, and of course we weren't fighting anybody so it simply wasn't
worth Obama's time to serve his country. Yeah. Right.
