Nope, Judges Never Legislate From The Bench
Claiming he no longer believes in punishment, a Vermont judge issued a 60-day sentence to a man who confessed to repeatedly raping a girl over a four-year period, beginning when she was 7 years old.Don't bother rereading that sentence, it says exactly what you think it said. Judge Edward Cashman no longer believes in punishment. He says that punishment "...doesn't solve anything. It just corrodes your soul..." and "it accomplishes nothing of value."
Well we all know that punishment is counterproductive to understanding and it just creates hard feelings and resentment. Not! Under the constitution of Vermont the Supreme Court can suspend judges - I think Judge Cashman needs to be suspended, preferably from a tree branch.
