The Democratic Party should just be honest and rename themself as the "Liberal Party" and state that traditional Democrats from the grass roots need not apply.
Can you imagine the results if the voters had a chance to answer an inquiry about their real political beliefs without Democrat or Republican used in the options.
They would look for the "D" because that is what Mom and Dad, and Gramps and Gramma were. Because that is how they were supposed to vote and trust.
MAybe that's where Major Hackett, USMC, was misled.
I recall hearing from the head of our family table, "You may be baptized a Catholic, but you're born a Democrat."
Of course, in time, after being elected to the GOP State Committee of Massachusetts, and openly gay, I thought I might have seen ruptures at my father's grave site.
Perhaps major Hackett had a message for a larger audience but was using the wrong stage door.
