Parades and Pride
Like Toddy I come from a conservative (somewhat fundamentalist) religious background. It made for difficult times as I slowly realized who I am. So I do understand the need to say: Hey, I'm here and this is who I am and I won't apologize for it.
It is important to remember however, that even though we share the incidental trait of attraction to our own gender, that is not the defining part of who we are as gay men and lesbians. The fact that we are here now, and that we have accepted ourselves despite great pressure to be someone that we aren't, that is the true measure of our character. That's what we should be proud of every day, not just one weekend in June.
