Do They Respect Us Yet?

Yes, THE ONE will talk to President Ahmadinejad and his sweet words of hope and change will bring about respect and mutual admiration between our nations. Not.
US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday.

"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.

After nearly three decades of severed ties, Obama said shortly after taking office this month that he is willing to extend a diplomatic hand to Tehran if the Islamic republic is ready to "unclench its fist".

In response, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a fresh tirade against the United States, demanding an apology for its "crimes" against Iran and saying he expected "deep and fundamental" change from Obama.
If it wasn't so frightening, I'd laugh.

Two Good Bits Of News... One Bad...

The good...

Michael Steele is the new Chairman of the Republican National Committee:
Steele delivered a rousing speech after winning the race, pledging to re-establish the Republican presence in the northeast and win elections in regions across the country.

"It's time for something completely different, and we're gonna bring it to them," he said. "Get ready, baby. It's time to turn it on."

Steele said he would work to build the party to an unprecedented level and warned: "For those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked down."
The FBI has finally recognized that CAIR is a smarmy group of terrorist enablers:
The FBI is severing its once-close ties with the nation's largest Muslim advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, amid mounting evidence that it has links to a support network for Hamas.

All local chapters of CAIR have been shunned in the wake of a 15-year FBI investigation that culminated with the conviction in December of Hamas fundraisers at a trial where CAIR itself was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.
The bad...

It's very likely that we'll be bringing the terrorists from Gitmo to the United States - meaning an ACLU field day trying to get them released:
Putting detainees on trial in U.S. courts raises a host of problems starting with the fact that few, if any, of the suspected terrorists were read their Miranda rights when they were picked up on foreign battlefields.

Bringing them to the United States creates the possibility they could be freed here. Writes former Homeland Security Department lawyer Andrew J. Puglia Levy for Forbes.com: "Under current law once a detainee sets foot in the United States, it’s possible that he eventually could be walking the streets.” [...]

Most of the remaining detainees at Guantanamo are extremely dangerous. And some of those who’ve been released have rejoined the terror fight.

Bringing sworn enemies of the United States to American soil is an outrageously bad idea. There’s one trial balloon quickly turned to lead.

Hot & Fast

That's how a planet HD80606b lives:
In just six hours, this planet four times the size of Jupiter heats up by more than 1,200 degrees, according to a study published in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.

"It's the first observation of changing weather" on a planet outside our solar system, said study author Gregory Laughlin, an astronomy professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz. [...]

When it comes closest to its star, it becomes one giant "brewing storm" complete with shock waves, Laughlin said. The radiation bombarding the planet is 800 times stronger than when it is farthest away.

Then just as quickly, the planet slingshots away and radiates the heat to the cool vacuum of space. It glows cherry red and the temperature plummets, Laughlin said.

"Utterly bizarre," he said. "It is thoroughly completely uninhabitable. In a galaxy of uninhabitable planets, this one stands out as being completely inhospitable to life."
Hmmmm... For some reason it struck me as a bit arrogant to call a world "thoroughly completely uninhabitable" just because it isn't comfy and cozy for any life form we're familiar with. What was the line from Jurassic Park?
Henry Wu: You're implying that a group composed entirely of female animals will... breed?

Dr. Ian Malcolm: No, I'm simply saying that life, uh... finds a way.

Feelings ... Woah Woah Woah ... Feelings!

A girls basketball team is being taken to task for winning. The Covenant School trounced the opposing team from Dallas Academy 100-0 and for that bit of excellence they must be punished. The school is seeking to forfeit the game and has already apologized on their website for winning "without honor" - whatever that means, though it seems meant to imply cheating. To top it all off, the coach of the winning team has been fired. Why? For refusing to apologize for coaching a winning team.

Rather than using this as an opportunity to teach the worsted team how to lose with grace and dignity it's been turned into a opportunity to shame and chagrin the team that won. All because the opposing team might have been made to feel bad. Remember, it's about feelings these days. You should hold back your excellence least you offend the less talented. Remember the liberal mantra: spread the mediocrity.

By nature all men are equal in liberty, but not in other endowments. ~ Thomas Aquinas

He Definitely Has Ears... But Has He Been Listening?

Saudi Hails Obama's Stance Towards Arab World
Saudi Arabia, one of Washington's top allies in the Middle East, on Tuesday hailed new US President Barack Obama's desire to bolster ties with the Arab world.

Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal praised Obama for "his desire to have a strong and fruitful relationship with the Arab world" and said his stance was a "positive development" in Washington's policy towards the Middle East.
What stance? Genuflecting? Groveling? Kowtowing?

In his first formal interview - with a reporter from Al-Arabiya - Obama claimed that America needs to start a new relationship with the Muslim world by "listening" to them. I'm not sure where The One has been for the last few years but the Muslims have been plenty vocal about what they want. They want to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. They want to kill all homosexuals (and apparently massage therapists if the video below is accurate). They want us to surrender and convert to Islam. Their definition of peace, after all, is a completely Islamic world. If we won't surrender and convert, they want us to die. Just in case you've had your head in the sand for the last century or so here are the Muslims in their own words:

What more does The One need to near? What more does the left need to hear? According to the Muslims we are at war, and it would behoove us to take them at their word.

Democrats Are Such NIMBYs - And Sissies, Don't Forget Sissies...

Pelosi Shrugs off Alcatraz as Possible Terror Detention Facility
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday shrugged off Republican suggestions that the federal government reopen Alcatraz prison in her San Francisco district to house detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

President Obama this week signed an executive order calling for the closure of the prison at Guantanamo within the year. Republican Rep. Bill Young then suggested to White House counsel Greg Craig that the prisoners who could not be released back to their home countries or sent to a third country be put up in "the Rock," the famous military installation and prison that closed down in 1963 and is now part of the National Park Service.

Asked whether that was a serious proposal, Pelosi said, "It is -- no."

"Perhaps he's not visited Alcatraz," Pelosi said of Young while displaying little sense of humor. "Alcatraz is a tourist attraction. It's a prison that is now sort of like a -- it's a national park."

That explanation didn't stop House Minority Leader John Boehner from repeating the suggestion on Sunday, making that point that closing down Guantanamo by year's end may not be the best plan considering the recidivism rate of terrorist detainees is about 12 percent.
I bet she doesn't want any wind farms in her district either, à la Ted Kennedy...

Barack Hussein Obama's Illegal War Against Muslim Children

President Obama Orders Pakistan Drone Attacks
Missiles fired from suspected US drones killed at least 15 people inside Pakistan today, the first such strikes since Barack Obama became president and a clear sign that the controversial military policy begun by George W Bush has not changed.

Security officials said the strikes, which saw up to five missiles slam into houses in separate villages, killed seven "foreigners" - a term that usually means al-Qaeda - but locals also said that three children lost their lives.
Come on, where's the outrage people?! Obama said he'd end the war but it's the same old same old on day three! Obama lied, children died!

Sorry - I couldn't resist.

Europe: Back Asswards As Usual

Islam Film Dutch MP To Be Charged
A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put a right-wing politician on trial for making anti-Islamic statements.

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made a controversial film last year equating Islam with violence and has likened the Koran to Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.

"In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to... draw a clear line," the court in Amsterdam said.

Mr Wilders said the judgement was an "attack on the freedom of expression".

"Participation in the public debate has become a dangerous activity. If you give your opinion, you risk being prosecuted," he said.

Not only he, but all Dutch citizens opposed to the "Islamisation" of their country would be on trial, Mr Wilders warned.

"Who will stand up for our culture if I am silenced?" he added.
It'll be entertaining (horrible, but entertaining) to listen to these euro-dolts exclaiming "but but but we defended you!" as they're dragged out of their offices to be beheaded.

Myth, Truth, Square Peg, Round Hole

On Tuesday, Barack Obama will stand on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and take an oath making him the nation's first president of African heritage.

The statue of Abraham Lincoln, which sits facing the Capitol in a temple two miles away, will not give two thumbs up. Neither will it weep, commune with the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. or dance a Macarena of joy.

The point is obvious, yes, but also necessary given that when Obama was elected in November, every third political cartoonist seemed to use an image of a celebrating Lincoln to comment upon the milestone that had occurred. Lincoln, they told us, would have been overjoyed.

Actually, Lincoln likely would have been appalled. How could he not? He was a 19th century white man who famously said in 1858 that "there is a physical difference between the white and black races, which . . . will forever forbid the two races living together upon terms of social and political equality.''

How do you reconcile that with all those cartoons of Lincoln congratulating Obama? You don't. You simply recognize it for what it is: yet another illustration of how shallow our comprehension of history is, yet another instance where myth supersedes reality.
Of course in the South, we never let minor details like the truth interfere with a good story. There is much to value in stories, and as Mr. Pitts goes on to say: "Abraham Lincoln did not believe in the equality of black people. He did, however -- and this was no minor distinction in his era -- believe in their humanity." The Union isn't perfect - has never been perfect - but politics and politicians aside it is getting more perfect.

From the Associate Press...

Two cousins from the Chicago area accused of training to kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq pleaded guilty to terrorism charges Thursday, federal prosecutors said.

The two were part of a plot organized by three men living in Toledo who were convicted last year of recruiting terrorists and raising money to fund their plans to wage a holy war against U.S. troops, prosecutors said.

The two cousins received training in firearms and counter-surveillance so they could join the insurgency, prosecutors said.

Khaleel Ahmed, 28, of Chicago and Zubair Ahmed, 28, of suburban North Chicago both pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.

Authorities Take Adolf Hitler, Young Sisters From Parents
Authorities in New Jersey removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his two young siblings from the care of their parents, according to a published report Tuesday.

The state's Division of Youth and Family Services took the boy, as well as his sisters -- JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, 1, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, 9 months -- from Heath and Deborah Campbell, according to LehighValleyOnline.com.

The parents were scheduled to make a court visit Tuesday, but the appearance was postponed.

Holland Township Police Chief David van Gilson told LehighValleyOnline.com that he didn't know why the children were taken, but added that his office had not received any complaints of abuse.

The family made national headlines last year when a cakemaker refused to add the boy's name to a cake.
Not to defend these nimrods, but there better be a good reason for removing the children from their parents' custody. Otherwise the state is the one acting Nazi-ish.

As A "Friend To Gays" Sean Penn Is Milk-toast

A Friend to Gays and Antigay Dictators Alike
It’s not surprising that Sean Penn, thanks to his star turn as Harvey Milk, is becoming a hero of the gay community -- likely to be showered with acting prizes, and deservedly so. But his outspoken admiration for the Castro and Chavez regimes should make everyone think twice. [...]

“There isn’t a single individual that is taken seriously in the human rights community -- whether you’re talking about Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, or Freedom House -- that would describe the Castro brothers and their regime as anything other than a police state run by thugs and murderers,” says Thor Halvorssen, president of the Human Rights Foundation, which focuses on Latin America. “That Sean Penn would be honored by anyone, let alone the gay community, for having stood by a dictator that put gays into concentration camps is mind-boggling.” [...]

Why should anyone care about an actor’s politics? The bloviations of Hollywood stars tend to be ignorant and irrelevant to those interested in serious debate about the issues of the day, but Penn’s grandstanding matters due to both his role in Milk and the film’s political relevance in the context of Proposition 8 and the nationwide campaign for gay rights. Gay rights are human rights, as Milk said, and Penn discredits both when he rationalizes illiberal ideologies as “anti-imperialist” and rushes to the defense of thugs who posture as victims of the West. Penn’s ignoble political side projects taint a noble cause.
Ignoble and mind-boggling doesn't even begin to describe it. Penn is a perfect example of Lenin's "useful idiot" - willing to excoriate the very nation that gives him voice in order to defend people that would at best lock him up, at worst use him and then dispose of him.

Perfect Is The Enemy Of Better

Getting tired of bailouts and gloom and doom and we gotta fix this and we gotta fix that? Tired of weenies that scream when they see the word "peanut"? Tired of blue ribbons for everyone and the death of first place? Me too. So is Orson Bean over at Big Hollywood:
“What puts the musk in muskrat? Courage!” Thus sings the great Bert Lahr in THE WIZARD OF OZ. Courage. In what short supply is this emotion in our country today. My wife and I just finished watching the HBO miniseries JOHN ADAMS. How brave our founding fathers were. And their fellow colonists as well. Children were not coddled. They learned at their parents’ knees that life was hardscrabble and nothing came easy. Freedom was worth fighting for. Divine Providence was what they relied on, but they knew that God demanded that they do their parts. No sense of entitlement, just hard work, struggle and fighting for what you wanted. And if it didn’t come, no whining, just rolling up of sleeves and starting over.
Life's tough, wear a cup.

Hezbollah Targets Israeli Civilians... On Purpose...

Israel Hit by Rockets From Lebanon, Conflict Widens
Lebanese militants [I think we all know that means Hezbollah: QC] fired at least three rockets into Israel early Thursday, threatening to open a new front for the Jewish state as it pushed forward with a bloody offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed nearly 700 people.

Two people were lightly injured, and the rockets that exploded in Israel's north raised the specter of renewed hostilities with Hezbollah, just 2 1/2 years after Israel battled the guerrilla group to a 34-day stalemate. Hezbollah started the 2006 war as Israel was battling Palestinian militants in Gaza.

No group claimed responsibility and Lebanon's government, wary of conflict, quickly condemned the rocket fire. Israel fired mortar shells into southern Lebanon in response.

For a second straight day, Israel said it suspended is Gaza military operation for three hours to allow in humanitarian supplies.
I assume the international condemnation of the "Lebanese militants" disproportionate response will be forthcoming? Now? Now? Now? Soon? Soon? Hello? Helloooo.....?

Liberal Blind Spot

It occurs to me that liberals have a blind spot when it comes to those who threaten the United States or other freedom loving nations. One Down...

Obama's administration has suffered its first victim of scandal:
Gov. Bill Richardson Withdraws Bid To Be Commerce Secretary

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday announced that he was withdrawing his nomination to be President-elect Barack Obama's commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation into how some of his political donors won a lucrative state contract.

Richardson's withdrawal was the first disruption of Obama's Cabinet process and the second "pay-to-play" investigation that has touched Obama's transition to the presidency. The president-elect has remained above the fray in both the case of arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the New Mexico case.

A federal grand jury is investigating how a California company that contributed to Richardson's political activities won a New Mexico transportation contract worth more than $1 million. Richardson said in a statement issued by the Obama transition office that the investigation could take weeks or months but expressed confidence it will show he and his administration acted properly.
Will he be the last?

Apropos

Charity Homes Built By Jimmy Carter Start To Crumble...
RESIDENTS of a model housing estate bankrolled by Hollywood celebrities and hand-built by Jimmy Carter, the former US president, are complaining that it is falling apart.

Fairway Oaks was built on northern Florida wasteland by 10,000 volunteers, including Carter, in a record 17-day “blitz” organised by the charity Habitat for Humanity.

Eight years later it is better known for cockroaches, mildew and mysterious skin rashes. [...]

One man pulled up his floorboards to find rubbish 5ft deep under his kitchen. Other complaints include cracking walls and rotting door frames that let in rats and ants. Many residents have complained of mildew and mysterious skin rashes.

One resident said her children were suffering from skin complaints. “The intentions are good, but when the politicians and big-shot stars have left we’re stuck with the consequences. This house looks pretty but inside it either stinks or sweats,” she said. [emphasis mine: QC]

Let Israel Do What It Needs To Do

Obama Stirs Fears In Israel (by Ralph Peters)
Israel can deal with self-aggrandizing busybodies, such as French President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose irresponsible attempts to force a cease-fire upon Israel benefit only Hamas. (Carla, can't you give that guy something to do?) But Israel would be hard pressed to fight on without American support. [...]

Obama's an unknown quantity, though. While hysterical claims that he'll be pro-Islamist from start to finish are absurd, even minor shifts away from supporting Israel's struggle against terrorists could have catastrophic consequences. And Israel's vaunted intelligence services can't tell their superiors what Obama will do, since few (if any) of the president-elect's supporters know what he intends to do.

In fact, the president-elect may not know himself. He's a babe in the woods, and the woods are full of wolves. Fighting political rivals doesn't prepare you for fighting terrorist fanatics.

For now, Israel must worry that a major ground offensive against Hamas would be halted halfway by the withdrawal of US support, both diplomatic and practical. The IDF even counts on us to replenish reserve stocks of the guided weapons that minimize civilian casual ties or penetrate tunnels and bunkers. Israel could find that it had paid a grim price in the blood of its sons and daughters, only to be robbed of the chance to hand Hamas a meaningful defeat.

As for our president-elect, his all-too-coy insistence that "we have only one president at a time" has been selective from the start. Glad to pontificate on stimulus packages and union benefits, Obama has used the one-president mantra to avoid taking stands on difficult issues that bedevil or bewilder him.

Our president-elect needed to make a clear, prompt statement in support of Israel. He didn't. If I were an Israeli leader, I'd be worried, too.
I'm definitely worried. As Mr. Peters points out: "You can't impress fanatics into surrendering. You have to kill them. Nothing else works." I pray for Israel to have strength and for President Obama to have understanding.

Stupid Hippies

English Hippies Want Local Wi-Fi Network Turned Off
Turn off that Wi-Fi network — it's disturbing our chakras.

That's what many residents of Glastonbury, a lovely medieval town turned New Age hub in southwestern England, are demanding the local government do.

Ever since the town's free municipal wireless broadband network went online in May, people have been complaining of, as an online petition puts it, "headaches, dizziness, nausea, severe tiredness, brain fog, disorientation and loss of appetite, loss of balance, inability to concentrate, loss of creativity" — all ailments an examining physician would find it difficult to prove or disprove.

"This place is not appropriate for a Wi-Fi trial," resident Linda Taylor tells the local Fosse Way magazine. "People are complaining of headaches, tingling skin among other symptoms. This makes me wonder what is it doing to the children." [...]

One man has even begun making orgone generators, which use crystals, semi-precious stones and gold to purportedly put out positive energy to combat the negative vibes flooding the town from the Wi-Fi base stations.

"I have given a number of generators to shops in the High Street and hidden others in bushes in the immediate vicinity of the antennae. That way you can bring back the balance," Matt Todd told the Telegraph. "The science hasn't really got into the mainstream because the government won't make decisions which will affect big business, even if it concerns everyone's health."
I'll tell you what's it doing to the children, it's giving them a chance to access real health and science information that might be able to counteract some of the bullsh-t you're feeding into their soft little brains. If the wi-fi network isn't being used then take it down; but please don't turn it off just because these jello brained loonies think it's messing up their chakras. Sheesh!
