We Have To Do More For Haiti Than Just Ship In Food, Water, & Medicine...
Elderly and Abandoned, 85 Haitians Await Death
Dear God. We'll surely have to answer for ever letting our neighbors come to such a state that this earthquake could cause such horror. We aren't responsible for their nation's failure, but we are responsible for ignoring it or giving it countenance. Forgive us.

I would argue that the best we can do for Haiti is to let it be. Only when people hit rock bottom can true change occur. Help beyond medicine would be a huge disservice to this country. God helps those who help themselves.
Messes negotiated by Carter, with Clinton's blessings still seem to be Bush's fault. Like Katrina and the Tsunami a coupla years ago, this IS a long term commitment.
So where's the organized secular humanist response to the quake? Pouting with the French?
One would guess that using Gitmo as a staging area for humanitarian relief isn't an option, though everything needed is there.
While I regret the loss of life among their contingent, having the UN mission in Haiti crippled will be one of the best things to happen to that nation.
