Jerry Falwell passed away today. I very strongly disagreed with the Rev. Falwell on many issues, but I very much admired him for sticking to his principles no matter what was thrown at him. Even
his one-time foe Larry Flynt
remarked on his death by saying:
My mother always told me that no matter how much you dislike a person, when you meet them face to face you will find characteristics about them that you like. Jerry Falwell was a perfect example of that. I hated everything he stood for, but after meeting him in person, years after the trial, Jerry Falwell and I became good friends. He would visit me in California and we would debate together on college campuses. I always appreciated his sincerity even though I knew what he was selling and he knew what I was selling.
God bless you and your friends and family Reverend Falwell.

I admire your ability to disagree without demonizing. Thanks for the comments. Well said.

His head got so fat it finally exploded.
Is that the official tolerant, loving, liberal response BGD? :-)
Yes.
Notablequotes.net, just remember - anyone has a right to be revolted by homosexuality. None of us is 'required' to accept ANYONE, let alone embrace them. And Falwell's comments on gayness, while extreme, were his sincere feeling, you know? Thus Kevin's commentary on it.
Would you rather be taxed into poverty, or have had this fella feel repulsed by you (if you're gay - are you?). Who gives a damn what he thought?
Someone not aiming to cause you material harm is to be laughed-off and ignored. No harm done.
We, as a nation, have MUCH bigger fish to fry than this.
Getting your feelings hurt or hackles up about this isn't worth our time.
Take a cue from Kevin; he has the perfect ability to disengage any personal ire he may feel about someone like that and simply shrug it off...as a person should! (...Unless the 'material harm' part kicks in, that is; short of that...F*CK IT. You know?)
By the way - if YOU agree with the Reverend's comments (and that was the point of your post, actually) - the gay people here will laugh it off, most assuredly!
Jerry Falwell. He had a big heart. Then, suddenly, God reached in with His Mighty Hand, and rrrripped it out, saying "This is for the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians ... the A.C.L.U., People for the American Way, all of them."
You're a class act, Kevin. Essentially their argument is that "he said bad things about me, so I am free to dehumanize him".
I don't think right-wingers will be pouring champagne when the Clintons or Rosie O'Donnell pass away.
